Amid all of the constant negative headlines surrounding President Trump's tariff strategy (some may call it a tariff “war”), it's great to see that a major company like Nvidia just announce that it is investing in developing two new factories in Texas (Houston and Dallas, specifically) to onshore manufacturing for AI supercomputer components. In Houston, Nvidia will collaborate with iPhone supplier Foxconn, and the Dallas factory will be built with Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Wistron.
Clearly, we are living in a dynamic time in which news and narratives are constantly shifting (even multiple times in a day), and it is fantastic that Nvidia has opted (as a result of tariff-related pressures) to invest majorly in the U.S. (and Texas) at this time. Hopefully this will be a signpost for other companies to join the big tech companies that have already moved operations to Texas in recent years, which should have long-term positive effects for the Texas economy. In fact, another recent article referred to Texas as an emerging “key Big Tech AI hub”, as evidenced by recent data center-related investments made by companies like Siemens, Apple, Google and Microsoft.
